The primary catalyst is the ongoing submarine eruption at the Titan Ridge volcano in Papua New Guinea's Bismarck Sea. Activity began on May 8, sending plumes 14,000 feet into the air. While NASA's Simon Carn says the event is less explosive than the 2022 Tonga blast, the pumice rafts are massive. Traders are also eyeing warnings from William Chadwick at Oregon State University.
